{"id":108,"date":"2025-08-19T12:11:05","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T12:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/phos.iesl.forth.gr\/?page_id=108"},"modified":"2026-07-14T13:01:45","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T13:01:45","slug":"travel-and-local-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/events.phos-society.gr\/1st-international-conference\/travel-and-local-info\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel and Local Info"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-2c90304e wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to reach Heraklio<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">By air :<\/span><\/strong><br>A number of flights are available daily, connecting the Heraklion International Airport (&#8220;Nikos Kazantzakis&#8221;, airport Code: HER) with the Athens International Airport &#8220;Eleftherios Venizelos&#8221; (ATH) and the International Airport of Thessaloniki (SKG).<br><br>These flights are operated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympicair.com\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.olympicair.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Olympic Air<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aegeanair.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aegean Airlines<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyexpress.gr\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.skyexpress.gr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sky Express<\/a><br>Additionally, in the period of April to October, direct charter flights connect several major European cities with Heraklion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">By boat :<\/span><\/strong><br>Heraklion is also connected to the Port of Piraeus in Athens with daily ferry boat service by :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anek.gr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ANEK Lines, Superfast Ferries<\/a> (Departure at about 21:30, Arrival at 6:00)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.minoan.gr\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.minoan.gr\">Minoan Lines<\/a> (Departure at about 22:00, Arrival at 6:00)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-2c90304e wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to reach Heraklio Center<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>From the Airport:<\/em><\/span><\/strong><br>By bus : The airport is very well-connected to the city centre by public bus. One-way ticket price : \u20ac 1.70<br>By taxi : It takes less than 10 minutes to get to the city centre and costs no more than \u20ac 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>From the Port:<\/em><\/span><\/strong> <br><\/span><\/strong>Most city hotels are within walking distance from the Port of Heraklion<br><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">By taxi : <\/span><\/strong>It takes less than 5-10 minutes to get to any of the city hotels and costs no more than \u20ac 18<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-2c90304e wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to reach FORTH<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The building of FORTH is located about 10 km South-West from the Heraklion centre and can be reached by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">By bus<\/span><br>Bus line No 8 connects the city centre directly to FORTH. (Please note: Sign on bus reads &#8220;I.T.E.&#8221;)<br>Stopping at the city centre, Eleftherias Square (Platia Eleftherias), bus-stop outside Astoria Hotel (see city map below) at about: 08:32, 14:33, 17:20, 19:45, 21:20.<br>FORTH to city centre, bus departure at about: 09:00, 15:00, 18:00, 20:10, 21:45.<br>Bus line No 11 connects the city centre directly to the university Hospital (Please note: Sign on bus reads &#8220;\u03a0\u0391\u0393\u039d\u0397&#8221;) stopping about 300m from FORTH. Frequency: 15-20 min.<br>Ticket costs \u20ac 1.60, and can be purchased at special vending machines near bus stop or at city<br>kiosks. Please make sure you get your return ticket in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">By taxi <\/span>: It takes about 20-30 minutes to get to FORTH from the Heraklion city centre and costs no more than \u20ac 18.<br>Please advise the cab driver that you are going to \u201cITE\u201d (located near the University
